SCHOLARSHIP NAME:
The Harriet Szafranski Memorial Scholarship aka “The Nana Fund”
The Harriet Szafranski Memorial Scholarship (aka “The Nana Fund”), administered through Young Actors’ Theatre group, is an annual scholarship awarded to YAT students, who are college-bound high school seniors seeking a future in music or the arts. The Harriet Szafranski Memorial Scholarship will be distributed annually to one student who has clearly demonstrated outstanding passion for the arts and music. The Scholarship committee will award scholarship gifts on the basis of an application process and personal essay demonstrating a passion to pursue the arts, in addition to a personal interview. PURPOSE: Grant dollars from the Harriet Szafranski Memorial Scholarship to support high school seniors with planned advancement toward a degree in performing arts or music education. An award will be offered annually, and will directly support performing arts and/or music education-based college courses.
TIMELINE:

June 22, 2024 – All applications due by email

June 25, 2024 – Notification to all candidates eligible for personal interview (if applicable)

June 27, 2024 – Scholarship winner announced and notified, all other candidates will be notified of status at this time.

June 29, 2024 - Scholarship monies to be given out at our annual Pajama Awards
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

College-bound high school seniors who intend to pursue the performing arts or music education in the 2024-2025 school year;

Must have participated in at least 1 Young Actors’ Theatre shows in the last 3 years;

Demonstrate work ethic, integrity, volunteerism and/or advocacy in the community;

Must have at least one letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor, teacher or mentor
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

Scholarship Application for 2024

Submit an essay (written by the student/applicant) to the scholarship committee describing the qualifications of the applicant and explaining the reasons why he or she feels they deserve the scholarship and how the performing arts have shaped who they are today.

Submissions need to include:

All high school academic transcripts;

Name, address, telephone number and email of the applicant;

Supporting portfolio material (i.e. headshot and/or resume) outlining performance background, inclusive of YAT show names and dates;

Awards and recognition's received and community organization participation;
-
GPA, SAT and/or ACT scores (if available)

FUNDING: Initial contribution to the fund is set at $1,000.
COMPLIANCE: State & federal law, including requirements of IRS
TAX STATUS: COMPLETE
TERMS & CONDITIONS The Harriet Szafranski Memorial Scholarship is a one-time gift given annually, for which previous winners may or may not be allowed to re-apply. Grantee may be asked to provide confirmation of confirmed music-education courses validating above eligibility requirements.
