The Next Act: Relocating Young Actors’ Theatre to keep our YAT family going.

 

For 24 years, Young Actors’ Theatre (YAT) has been a second home to hundreds of young artists in our community. It’s a place where kids find their voices, build lifelong friendships and learn that they belong.

 

Now, we are preparing for our biggest performance yet: moving to a brand-new home.

 

Why We Are Moving:

Our current space at Grossmont Center has always been a temporary location while we searched for a new home. It has served us well as a rehearsal space, but with the expansion of Grossmont, our lease has no option to renew it and has come to an end.

 

We have been searching for the past three years for a space we could once again call home. One that permits live shows, has the space we need, and ALL the things needed for a successful theater. By some miracle, in the 11th hour we have found an incredible space!

 

Three years ago, when we had to relocate, it became a constant outreach to partner with facilities that could host us for the run of our shows. This came at a great cost financially and our budget greatly dwindled. Just this year we have spent $71,000 in rentals. Relocating to our new home theater will allow us to begin to recoup our budget to keep our programs running safely and expand our reach to even more youth.

 

We have found an incredible new space located in a historical area of East County. The community is excited to have us there and we will have so much support! As soon as we are able, we can share specific details. For now, East County and an excited community is what we can give you.

 

This relocation will allow us to:

 

• Have stability and security: We will be signing a long term lease that will move YAT into having a permanent location.

• Enhance safety & accessibility: Provide a fully accessible space for all performers and audience members.

• Build a community: Having everything we do in a single location again allows for such a stronger community both within our walls and within the neighborhood.

 

Where your donation goes:

Moving a full theater program: sets, costumes, props, tech and everything that makes YAT run, takes more than packing boxes. Here's what your donation directly funds:

 

• $27,812 - Deposits for the new space

• $6,722 - Secure storage for costumes, sets, and equipment (6 units for 4 months)

• $2,331 - Rent for the rehearsal location needed while in the transition to move to our home

• $1,525 - Moving trucks and transportation mileage, gas, transfer fees, moving fees, processing fees and other startups with moving utilities and programming to new location - misc. moving supplies: boxes, tape, moving pads

 

Our goal is to raise $39,000 by October 31, 2026 to cover these transition costs and make this move as seamless as possible for our students, families, and staff. This amount is a little over the total to help with any missing items - $609.
